Community Gardens

Overview

The Yucca, Tumbleweed and Manzanita Neighborhood Houses offer a vibrant, free after school program for neighborhood kids, typically15 to 20 kids per house each weekday. Thirty non-profit and community groups provide activities at the Neighborhood Houses free for the community.

The two Community Gardens are bustling with activity. Gabriel’s House provides music and photography instruction free of charge to local students. Services are easily accessible in a City-operated Neighborhood House. Gabriel’s House partners with local non-profits to expand services and maximize local impact.

Twenty-five gardeners, mostly seniors, grow healthy fruits and vegetables during the summer and fall and benefit from socialization with other gardeners. The Foundation provides planting mix of compost and soil, gardening tools, and gift cards to purchase seeds at the beginning of the planting season.
