Great American Defense Community Flag Presented to the Antelope Valley

PALMDALE – On Saturday, June 25 at 6:30 pm the Association of Defense Communities (ADC) will officially present the Antelope Valley with the Great American Defense Community Award Flag just prior to the performance by the 562nd Air Force Band Concert at the Palmdale Amphitheater. ADC Board Member Keith Kalehan and USAA representative Rory Wicks will present the flag to the City, Edward's Air Force Base and Air Force Plant 42 representatives.

The Antelope Valley was named one of the 2022 Great American Defense Communities, as awarded by the ADC in conjunction with USAA, the program’s official sponsor at the Defense Communities National Summit in March. The City of Palmdale applied for the award on behalf of the region and highlighted the wealth of resources available, both on and off base, that support veterans, military service members, and their families in the Antelope Valley. This includes workforce training, housing opportunities, health and wellness, special events and programs, and dozens of organizations working to support the local military community.

“It is truly an honor that the Antelope Valley has been recognized as a 2022 Great American Defense Community,” said Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer. “Palmdale has a long and deep relationship with Edwards Air Force Base, Air Force Plant 42, Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, and more than 80 prominent aerospace, commercial space, defense companies, and suppliers who to provide our nation with cutting edge aerospace technology to equip our military forces with the best resources available in their mission of keeping all of us safe and free.”

The Great American Defense Communities program was launched by ADC in 2016 to recognize and celebrate the communities and regions that support military installations for their exceptional commitment to improving the lives of service members, veterans, and their families.
