PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale announced the winners of the 8th annual Generations Juried Art Contest at a reception and exhibit held simultaneously at Legacy Commons and Palmdale Playhouse on Friday night, August 26, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
“This is important for the community,” said Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer during the ceremony. “This exhibit and the amazing artwork on display demonstrates the heart and soul of the community.”
The winners announced were: 12 years and younger category, first place Gabriela Sotelo, title: Las Mariposas; second place Sanyu Kalyesubula, title: Mae Jemison; third place Hailey Pette, title: The Giant Hamburger; and honorable mention: Lysander Urban, title: Moths into Moonlight; Mariam Barsegyan, title: Music is the Future; and Ali Kalyesubula, title: Mechanical Bear Ninja.
Age 13 to 17 and category, first place Arianne Abad, title: Society; second place Jasmin Machen, title: Birds in Hand; third place Jeanine Dacula, title: Fruits; and honorable mention: Francis Escudero, title: Demon of Chaos; LaShay Long, title: Finding Peace of Mind; and Sofia Sedano, title: German Shorthair Pointer.
18 to 54 category, first place Chelsea Williams, title: River; second place Michelle Santillan, title: Lake Palmdale; third place Goldie Salimkhan, title: Lord of Reconciliation, The Lovers, and the Chariot; honorable mention: Stephanie Lemus, title: Palm Springs I, II, III; Jordin Rice, title: Monster in the Washer; and Morena Ponce Taborda, title: Calma.
55 and older category, first place Myung Kang, title: Return; second place Lisa Hicks, title: Thirst for Knowledge; third place Robert Fields, title: Wilted Sunflower; and honorable mention: Monica Manzoni, title: Little Window of Dreams; Yancy Calzada, title: Avenue N; and George Vellios, title: Autumn Day.
