First Groundbreaking Takes Place in New Health and Wellness Land Use Designation

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale and Toneman Development Corporation participated in a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 3, to celebrate the construction of a new 10,000 SF medical surgery center in the City's new Health and Wellness land use designation, along with an additional 20,000 SF light industrial warehouse. The building will be the first development in the new land use designation unanimously adopted by the City Council on Sept. 21 as part of the Palmdale 2045 General Plan.

“This is the first of many new developments that will be coming down the pipeline in Palmdale,” said Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer. “Projects with certain medical uses in the health and wellness zone designation will have a streamlined process to help save developers time, and time is money.”

“It’s a great feeling to have the ability to invest and build new developments that provide future economic opportunities in my hometown,” added JP Toneman, President/CEO of Toneman Development.

Palmdale’s General Plan Update 2045 will serve as a 25-year guide for growth and development and gives guidance for land use, economic growth, open space, conservation, affordable housing, and employment. Specifically, the new Health and Wellness land use designation was added to support the long-term growth of the Palmdale Regional Medical Center, providing new developments flexibility to build public and private medical support services, emergency medical facilities, and other supportive retail services. Palmdale Regional Hospital recently expanded its partnership with City of Hope to provide urological oncology services by a team of experts committed to providing world-class resources and care.  Two additional Health and Wellness land use designations are located in the city, one near Kaiser Medical offices off east Avenue S and 47th Street East and another at Palmdale Blvd. and 40th Street East.

Toneman Development Corporation is an independent local firm privately owned by members of the Toneman family, with JP Toneman, as the owner and founder.
