[ARCHIVED] Family Volunteer Day Scheduled for Saturday 11/19

PALMDALE – Registration is open for the City of Palmdale’s annual Family Volunteer Day on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to Noon. There are several opportunities available to include a variety of abilities and ages. To sign up or for additional details for Family Volunteer Day, visit https://signup.com/go/vLgRrX.

One option includes sorting donations for Christmas, birthday presents, and community giveaways. This opportunity is recommended for volunteers older than 12 years of age with no physical restrictions. The event occurs at the former AERO Institute building at 38256 Sierra Hwy.

Volunteers can also assist at South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES), located at 1002 E. Ave. Q-12 in Palmdale, preparing Thanksgiving baskets for distribution, or creating “Cards from the Heart” to be distributed to seniors receiving a Thanksgiving basket from SAVES.

For Holiday Card craft volunteers, please dress appropriately to use paint, markers, glue, and glitter. This activity is excellent for younger volunteers (4 yrs. +) and those who need to be seated while working.

“Volunteering as a family amplifies the impact of public service, and it demonstrates to children the significance of giving back to the community,” said Community Programs Coordinator Patricia Morales.

Family Volunteer Day is a Global Day of Service celebrating the power of families who work together to support their communities and neighborhoods.

Please remember that an adult must accompany any youth under 16. All volunteers must fill out a release of liability form to participate. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and dress appropriately, as some projects may occur outside.  Volunteers will be provided with masks, and COVID-19 social distancing and safety protocols will be in place.
