The Palmdale City Library’s Classics Book Club will discuss the novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Czech author Milan Kundera, Monday, Nov. 25, at 7 pm, at the library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.
Originally published in 1984, two years after it was initially written, the novel is set during the so-called Prague Spring in 1968 Czechoslovakia and follows the lives of two men and two women, and their relationships with one another.
The Unbearable Lightness of Being, along with all other works by Kundera, who lived in exile in France since 1975, were censored and banned by the Communist government of Czechoslovakia until its downfall in 1989.
The Classics Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of every month from 7 to 8 pm. New members are welcome to attend.
The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
