City of Palmdale Training and Hiring Lifeguards

PALMDALE – The City is currently accepting applications for Lifeguards and offering Lifeguard Academy classes that start on Friday, Feb. 24.

If you are at least 15 ½ years old, you can sign up today for the Lifeguard Academy at

Academy classes run Feb. 24-26 and March 10-14, with a final written exam on Tuesday, March 14, at 5 pm. Lessons take place at both Legacy Commons, 930 East Ave. Q-9, and Corson Park Pool, 38226 10th St East. Registration for this academy will close on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at noon.

“From DryTown Water Park to our four park pools, the swimming and water recreation facilities are amazing,” said Palmdale Mayor Laura Bettencourt. “If you want a great job serving your community, we’d love for you to join our team and be part of the busy summer swimming season.”

To apply, lifeguard candidates must be 17 years old by July 1, 2023, possess a lifeguard training certificate, and pass the pre-screening swim test. Applications and job descriptions are available online at

Lifeguard Academy participants who complete the class requirements will receive American Red Cross Lifeguarding certifications and are guaranteed an interview to become a City of Palmdale lifeguard. Lifeguard staff may be eligible for up to a $2,000 bonus based on hours worked and Lifeguard Academy fee reimbursement.
