WHY: May 9 is National Fentanyl Awareness Day. This event is being held to raise awareness, equip our community with lifesaving information, and announce the Youth Multimedia Fentanyl Awareness Challenge winners. Narcan training and hands-only CPR will be available. Narcan will be distributed to participants who complete the training.
BACKGROUND: The City, in partnership with numerous community stakeholders through the #FightFentanylAV Campaign, is spreading awareness about the fentanyl epidemic plaguing our community and nation. The campaign provides essential information to prevent the illicit use of and overdose deaths caused by fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid prescribed for pain that is also made and sold illegally. Antelope Valley middle and high school students participated in the #FightFentanylAV Youth Multimedia Fentanyl Awareness Challenge. Visit www.cityofpalmdaleca.gov/Fentanyl for details.
