#FightFentanylAV Campaign Announces Multimedia Challenge Winners
PALMDALE – The City’s #FightFentanylAV Campaign will host two Red Ribbon Week events in partnership with community stakeholders. The kickoff event will be held on Monday, Oct. 23 from 5 to 7 pm at Poncitlán Square, 38315 9th St. East in Palmdale. The closing event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, from 4 to 8 pm on The BLVD in Lancaster. Both events will feature Narcan and hands-on CPR training, resources, vendors, games, food trucks, and more. Participants are encouraged to wear red.
The winners of the Multimedia Youth Challenge will be announced at the kickoff event in Palmdale. Open to middle and high school students, the Challenge encouraged students to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and to promote overdose prevention. Scholarships will be awarded for video public service announcements, original song, artwork, and poetry, and the winning entries will be featured on both cities’ websites.
Red Ribbon Week, established by Congress in 1988 to encourage a drug-free lifestyle and involvement in drug prevention, will be celebrated in communities nationwide from October 23 through 31. This year’s theme is “Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug Free.”
The #FightFentanylAV Campaign spreads awareness about fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid prescribed for pain that is also made and sold illegally, by providing essential information to prevent illicit use and overdose deaths. The campaign’s partners include the City of Palmdale, Tarzana Treatment Centers, Change Lanes, Parents Anonymous, Los Angeles County Public Health, Pueblo Y Salud, DEA, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, and the City of Lancaster.
