Palmdale Councilmember Loa Nominated for Blue Ribbon Commission on Homelessness

PALMDALE – Councilmember Richard J. Loa was nominated by his peers from multiple cities in the North County/San Fernando sector to represent them on the Executive Committee of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Homelessness (BRCH) on Thursday, Oct. 26. His nomination will be ratified at a general LA City Selection Committee meeting at a later date.

“It would be my honor to sit on the committee,” said Loa. “My passion for community service and my experience with practicing criminal, civil and real estate locally puts me in a unique position to understand the issues of homelessness. Throughout my career, I have worked earnestly with low- and moderate-income individuals and represented clients who have been at risk of eviction or evicted.”

The Blue Ribbon Commission on Homelessness was established by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on July 27, 2021, as an ongoing and focused effort to address homelessness. The County aims to provide housing and services to people experiencing homelessness and recognizes that the governance system could be improved.

The Executive Committee of the BRCH includes elected officials from cities and Los Angeles County, who are responsible for developing a single plan and driving a unified effort across the region. Members of the Executive Committee align funding and implement the Committee’s decisions to the extent of their existing authority.

The Executive Committee consists of two members of the Board of Supervisors appointed by the board chair; the mayor of Los Angeles; a Los Angeles city council member appointed by the mayor of Los Angeles; four city members appointed by the Los Angeles County City Selection Committee for each sector (the North County and San Fernando Valley Sector, the Southwest Corridor sector, the San Gabriel Valley sector, and the Southeast sector); and a representative appointed by the California governor.
