The Palmdale City Library’s Classics Book Club will discuss the novel Doctor Zhivago by Russian author and poet Boris Pasternak, Monday, Jan. 27, at 7 pm, at the Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.
Originally published in Italy in 1957, Pasternak’s novel describes the life and loves of Dr. Yuri Zhivago, a doctor, poet, and philosopher, and the impact the Russian Revolution has on him and those close to him. The novel won Pasternak the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1958; however, due to the controversial nature of his work in the USSR, he was forced to decline it. Doctor Zhivago went on to become an international bestseller, and in 1988, Pasternak’s descendants finally accepted the award in his name.
The Classics Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of every month from 7 to 8 pm. New members are welcome to attend.
The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
