[ARCHIVED] MA: Photo Op: Ribbon Cutting/Grand Opening for AveP. /SR14 Project

WHAT:                       Ribbon Cutting/Grand Opening for Measure R funded Avenue P. (Rancho Vista Blvd.)/State Route 138/14 (Antelope Valley Freeway) interchange project.

WHEN:                       Wednesday, January 22, 10 am.

WHERE:                    38910 Carriage Way and Avenue Q, west of the freeway

WHO:                         Officials from the City of Palmdale, Metro, Caltrans and County of Los Angeles. Also invited are representatives from the local Assembly and State Senate offices.

BACKGROUND:      In 2011, the North County Transportation Coalition (NCTC) was allocated a total of $200 million dollars in Measure R Equity Grant funds to help design and construct un-built segments of State Route 138 (SR 138) within Los Angeles County.  This was the first of eleven projects along the Highway 138/14 corridor, five of which are in Palmdale.  This specific project was designed to alleviate the existing bottleneck configuration on south bound State Route 14 mainline and the storage deficiency of the north bound off-ramp to Rancho Vista Blvd.  Major components of the project were:

Addition of one acceleration lane by widening south bound SR 14 from Technology Drive to north of Palmdale Blvd; and

Widen Rancho Vista Blvd. off-ramp to increase storage for both left-turn and right-turn traffic.

This project was fully designed by Caltrans, including environmental and roadway design and project management is handled by the City of Palmdale.  The project was constructed by CA Rasmussen, Inc. (Santa Clarita) and Psomas provided construction management under contract to the City of Palmdale.

The project budget was $25M, with anticipated project construction costs at $12.8 million and design costs at $3.6 million.  Any savings from this project will be re-allocated to the other Measure R projects.
