The Palmdale City Library’s Classics Book Club will discuss the novel The Red and the Black by Stendhal, a pseudonym for 19th-century French writer Henri-Marie Beyle, Monday, March 23, at 7 pm, at the Library, located at 700 E. Palmdale Blvd.
A French novel originally published in 1830, The Red and the Black tells the story of Julien Sorel, a handsome and ambitious young man from a poor family in France who attempts to rise beyond his modest origins and make a place for himself in Parisian society.
The Classics Book Club meets on the fourth Monday of every month from 7 to 8 pm. New members are welcome to attend.
The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm; Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 1 to 5 pm.
