WHO: Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer; Palmdale City Councilmembers; City Manager J.J. Murphy; Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Chief Dennis Kneer; Palmdale Sheriff Captain Ron Shaffer; California Highway Patrol Captain Eric Broneer; representative from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; representatives from the offices of Supervisor Kathryn Barger and State Senator Scott Wilk. Assemblyman Tom Lackey and singer/songwriter Joei Fulco.
BACKGROUND: Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week is an observance in the United States that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty. It has been celebrated May 15 of each year since 1962.
PROTOCOL: The City of Palmdale encourages social distancing and facing covering for all attendees. People are also able to either attend virtually by watching the ceremony on Facebook at City of Palmdale-Government, or by remaining in their vehicles or at a safe distance away from the flagpole while wearing facial coverings.
People are encouraged to submit the names of peace officers they would like to have recognized by emailing the names to communications@cityofpalmdale.org .
